The change of seasons inevitably brings with it a shift in attitude, a revaluation of directions, desired outcomes and hopefully a brighter view on the present. The first day of Spring seemed to bring with it a plethora of change for many. 'Spring Clean your Life', seemed to be the order of the week. Relationships dissolved, relationships blossomed, careers crumbled and for others new opportunities and horizons have opened to be conquered. Perhaps it is the current economic climate, perhaps the seasonal shift has given everyone itchy feet; whatever the reasons may be, there cannot be denied a definite redistribution of energy has been doing the rounds.
I have always maintained that goal setting, or to take it one step further, vision creation; is one of the key elements to creating personal success. The simple acts of defining what you want out of your life and the actions required to make those accomplishments a reality, are powerful in so many ways. Goal setting provides clarity, direction, eases stress and allows for better management of present-time issues with greater aplomb than perhaps would have been exhibited otherwise.
So this is where i found myself, both personally and professionally, this week. Assessing and amending both my own and my clients, ever evolving, goal and action plan. One of the wonderful aspects of the work I do, is the people I meet and what I learn from each and every one of them. So with my thanks to my crew, here is an overview:
Lessons learned this week:
1) Be wary the wolf in sheeps clothing: You know the people who are super saccharine sweet to your face yet behave in a less than graceful manner behind your back. These are the people that will sabotage your goals, sabotage your emotional wellbeing, sabotage your business and given half the chance suck the life out of you before they move on to another host. They always seems to hold your emotions as a partner or good friend in the palm of their hand and leverage this as their wild card at will. While they remain in your world you will be riddled with dis-ease and unable to achieve. SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE-Purge the poison!
2)Beware of yourself: Being a high achiever and setting lofty goals is one of the keys to living a full, successful and interesting life. I for one, love setting myself new challenges and feel quite lost when I have nothing to aim toward. However, having learnt from bitter experience, when your deteriorating health, exceptionally high stress levels and inability to meet targets becomes an on-going saga of woe, the time to change has come. Once your health begins to be effected negatively, injuries become a prevailing issue and everywhere you go you leave a trail of destruction reminiscent of a re-run of a 'Tassie Devil cartoon', perhaps adding more to your plate is not the answer. Self sabotage comes in many forms, for the perfectionist this over load tactic, is a classic. SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE- keep it simple stupids
3) Beware the Blame Game: We have all used or heard of the 'work', 'children', 'partner', 'LIFE' excuses for not accomplishing or completing important tasks that move you toward your goals. In doing so what you are really saying is that you were too weak minded or weak willed to make yourself a priority or own up to your inadequacies to accomplish something YOU set for YOURSELF. When you play the blame game you are putting yourself in the role of VICTIM against the WORLD, in an attempt to shift responsibility from yourself to an outside, unseen element. Your not fooling anyone however, least of all yourself. In taking responsibility for the choices you make you will be more likely to come to the end result far quicker and with much less struggle and pain. SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE- Own your actions!
4)Be open to new opportunities: Setting clear goals and directions in which to focus your energies is one of the keys to success. Being single minded in achieving these goals and avoiding or perhaps simply jumping the many hurdles that inevitably creep up in your path, is a skill to reaching your goals on a consistent basis. However, life never goes perfectly to plan. One of the joyous aspects to life is that sometimes new adventures await us which we had never factored into the equation. Part of what makes life exciting is being able to roll with the punches and enjoy the possibilities whilst still maintaining course. Sometimes you may come back on course at a later date and sometimes there is little impact at all. Sometimes throwing the deck of cards in the air and seeing how they land is part of the fun of living an extraordinary rather than just an ordinary life.SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE- Be bold & daring you only get one shot!
With 5 weeks of preparation remaining, the training, dieting and overall lead up to this USA trip has been very enjoyable. Apart from a little niggle sciatic nerve issue. Caused some irritation at the beginning of the week, but rectified itself after an excruciating foam roller session- yes my language was most colourful for the 45minutes.
The altitude training has been a great addition to my training program, allowing for some enjoyable outdoors sprint training sessions and a new love/hate relationship with running, albeit my preferred sprint work. What I am finding most interesting is that my cardio performance outputs are on the improve despite lower calorie intake.
All in all I am feeling well on track for the pending shows and shoots. I cannot wait to get stateside. October is going to be an action packed month and the second year I will be overseas to celebrate my birthday, something which I feel so lucky to be able to say. Last year was Mexico City, this year Miami. I must also make very special mention to www.vitaminking.com.au
helping make my athletic dreams a reality
