Mad dash to finish somewhere else....

We are in December already and as with every other year that has been prior, everyone goes mental trying to close the year out with an 'IN TRAY' that is empty.

Like every year that has passed prior...the INTRAY is NEVER empty...yet we all still go mental trying to kid our selves that if we scramble, shout, abuse and stress enough this year will be different.
HMMMM....The definition of insanity just came to mind.....

This mad scramble for Christmas 'cheer'...I know right, Im not feeling it right now peeps...does scream a little of being unprepared for the eventuality that is Dec 25th and all that goes with it. So perhaps with a little planning, things may not seem quite so...well...Manic.

Forecasting a little further along the weeks and we come to the January guilt fest...you know its going to happen. The usual, January 1st 'things will be different this year, I will loose this belly/butt/third nipple (you get my gist...). You feel feral after gorging yourself on festive food and have gained the estimated 2-3kg (4-6lb) over the past 5 days and drunk more sherry than a grannies convention...and begin to look toward 2012 with revised willpower and motivation. You will go to the gym and get a membership in the morning, you will not have that 3rd piece of Christmas cake after dinner.

Oh please! Who are you kidding? Of course you will have the cake and that gym membership will never get used!  Lets stop the insanity and get real for a second shall we? Lets get honest while we are at it!

What I am suggesting is that you get real with yourself right NOW. What you have been saying about your health and body all year has not happened!

For those of you reading that have made changes and realised, or at least put into action goals that you set early in 2011, I loudly congratulate and honour the commitment you have made to your health. You are, in my eyes true masters of your own destiny and testimony to what can be achieved when you stop bullsh**ing yourselves and others and take ownership, become accountable to yourself, get self integrity and do what you promised yourself you would do. I love this, your amazing and should be proud.

I am writing this post for the 2 in 3 of you who are still, quite honestly deluded about the commitment you have to your own health. If even 20% of the stressing that was made about Dec 25th, was put toward being a healthier, fitter member of society...well what a bunch of sexy, hot studs and stud'ettes we would be walking amongst...no?

So, I pose this to you....Right now and for the rest of this week, take a look at what false statements you have made in the past and are likely to make again regarding your health and fitness.  Admitting to yourself there is an issue as they say is half the battle. Once you have done this I challenge you to take measures to set up your health and fitness plan for the next 12 months, starting NOW. Go and get all your health tests done, your body analysis (DEXA scan) done, find a personal trainer, Cross-Fit class, adventure challenge(there are heaps to choose from all around the globe, so there is no excuse), if you have planned to compete but never had the kahunas to do it, set a date and start training and dieting for it NOW.
Make this year the year that you CHOSE not to be porcine and gorge Christmas food like it is your last meal. But instead stay true to your health and fitness goals, honour your word. Go to the gym, get active in the outdoors- summer or winter; its the best place to be.
Be proactive this year not reactive. Take emotions like guilt out of the equation so that the goals actually have a deeper seated meaning than just 'i feel fat'.

Let me describe a little scene for you, that truly blew me away...I was amazed and disturbed by the logic at play (if there was much at all), it was insanity in action-
picture if you will a bowl of ice-cream (vanilla too mind you... but whatever blows your hair back..lol), being coveted as though it were the last most delicious ice-cream on earth, quite obviously being enjoyed immensly. Which is fine, all power to you. However, the following tirade of self punishment and guilt over the consumption of this 'treat' was quite unbareable. To which the end result was..'right, well I will do an hour cardio to burn this off!'
..ok, a guilt induced action statement, fair enough...again do what you must I guess...

Not 10 minutes later I witness this same person with bowl of ice-cream number 2 repeating the entire process. Followed by the same conversation.
Now, in all fairness this is something that every single one of us have done at some point in our lives, replace the ice-cream with any number of things-food, work, training, relationships. The key here remains, repeat the same action and you will get the same result. If you know that guilt is going to follow an action and self loathing is part of that, dont do it. We know Christmas is a stressful time, so plan and strategise some of those stress' away Dont make plans to do things come January 1st, that in reality will never happen, make the plans and action them now, so that they are ALREADY HAPPENING. It is so much easier to continue something already started, than it is to begin in the first place.

Create positive habits and manage the hurdles that will come along, but do not sit whining about how awful you feel and how terrible it all is. Because honestly,  you only have yourself to blame, therefore you only really have yourself to pull you out of it. Which is one of the most powerful and empowering concepts I leave you with. You have the power to change the outcome. So make it happen for yourself and above all stop PROCRASTINATING. DO IT NOW!

Opportunity at a glance....

It has been a very full and fairly overwhelming 2 months. But with the dust settling down and life returning to some level of normality I find myself reflecting on a great deal of joy, success from unexpected avenues and well, honestly I am bursting with the prospects of what 2012 will bring. So, let me explain;

The competitions- The main reason for the USA tour, but in no way the only reason. The competitions at pro level were an eye opener for so many wonderfully positive reasons. I met amazing fellow competitors, hung out with great girls from the fitness scene whist in Florida and got to spend time with fellow Aussie Donna Jones, which was very cool considering we live in different states. So to get to know her better was a real pleasure.

The shows brought up some interesting feedback. Namely that I will need to bring my 48kg frame down in size for next year, which I am currently in the process of doing. How so you may well ask? Well, I have a few plans in the mix and I encourage you to keep watching my you tube channel and also follow my spbfitness.com site for all the video updates and adventures coming up, they are varied and sure to entertain.

Photoshoots-The rest of the trip involved amazing photoshoots. I caught up, for a day, with my favourite USA photographer Chaz of Chaz Photographics. Chaz has worked with some of the top USA fitness girls and is well known for his work for Playboy..so to call him not only a great friend, but one of the best I have worked with is a great honour.

A truely exciting day was spent with Jennifer Nicole Lee in Miami, at the Fitness Model Factory. I left armed with goodies from JNL herself, sides that ached from laughing so hard, amazing images from the huge amount of looks and outfits we shot and I have to say both JNL and her personal photographer Claude Taylor ( Planet Muscle and so much more) were truly stellar people to hang out with. I love positive energy and working with enthusiastic, passionate people. These two were amazing, high voltage, million miles and hour of explosive go. I loved it, I loved Miami and cannot wait to see them and the vibrant city again soon.

San Diego and Fort Lauderdale were wonderful cities in very different ways. and I really enjoyed the chance of exploring both, with wonderful, special people.

The opportunities presenting themselves from this trip have been so diverse and extraordinary I am still reeling a little. But time will have all unfold as it should, so I urge you to stay tuned.

My event and travel calendar for 2012 is in final stages of being organised and this will include more USA travel plus I hope more Australian interstate adventures to share my Winning Body Project with you. So keep an  eye out for the following:

  • Winning Body Project -Fortune 500 Training Program (DVD) being released Dec 10th

  • spbfitness.com includes store to get your own piece of spb ( posters, images, apparel and membership to secured galleries plus discounts for members with affiliate organisations, supplement stores, clothing brands, cosmetics the benefits are endless, spb apparel and heaps more).
So to close 2011 and move toward 2012-Competition time is looming for March and I have limited spots for girls to be part of the coveted Rokettes Team. All of whom will be ready to Rok out the shows, the exclusive BODYOGRAPHY shoot and so much more. I am excited to announce the newest Rokette with you Juliette Cotteral (Optimum Nutrition sponsored athlete and future bikini Pro). Contact me for more info or go to the store area to register for your program.

I want to thank Vitamin King Australia for their continued and valued support, their supplements work..in fact so well that I have too much muscle for figure(who'd have thought hey?), so get onto their pre workout supplements, Optimum Nutrition proteins and recovery and sleep formulas (somnidren HG is the bomb for those who want a really great nights rest). I had the best prep leading into my october shows and it is because of their wonderful products that I could train like a freak and keep coming back for more, no injuries and energised every session.

So till next time GET YOUR FITNESS FREAK ON, GET PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR PURPOSE and be unwaivering in your determination to be the best you can.

Spring clean your life

The change of seasons inevitably brings with it a shift in attitude, a revaluation of directions, desired outcomes and hopefully a brighter view on the present. The first day of Spring seemed to bring with it a plethora of change for many. 'Spring Clean your Life', seemed to be the order of the week. Relationships dissolved, relationships blossomed, careers crumbled and for others new opportunities and horizons have opened to be conquered. Perhaps it is the current economic climate, perhaps the seasonal shift has given everyone itchy feet; whatever the reasons may be, there cannot be denied a definite redistribution of energy has been doing the rounds.

I have always maintained that goal setting, or to take it one step further, vision creation; is one of the key elements to creating personal success. The simple acts of defining what you want out of your life and the actions required to make those accomplishments a reality, are powerful in so many ways. Goal setting provides clarity, direction, eases stress and allows for better management of present-time issues with greater aplomb than perhaps would have been exhibited otherwise.

So this is where i found myself, both personally and professionally, this week. Assessing and amending both my own and my clients, ever evolving, goal and action plan. One of the wonderful aspects of the work I do, is the people I meet and what I learn from each and every one of them. So with my thanks to my crew, here is an overview:

Lessons learned this week:
1) Be wary the wolf in sheeps clothing: You know the people who are super saccharine sweet to your face yet behave in a less than graceful manner behind your back. These are the people that will sabotage your goals, sabotage your emotional wellbeing, sabotage your business and given half the chance suck the life out of you before they move on to another host. They always seems to hold your emotions as a partner or good friend in the palm of their hand and leverage this as their wild card at will. While they remain in your world you will be riddled with dis-ease and unable to achieve. SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE-Purge the poison!

2)Beware of yourself: Being a high achiever and setting lofty goals is one of the keys to living a full, successful and interesting life. I for one, love setting myself new challenges and feel quite lost when I have nothing to aim toward. However, having learnt from bitter experience, when your deteriorating health, exceptionally high stress levels and inability to meet targets becomes an on-going saga of woe, the time to change has come. Once your health begins to be effected negatively, injuries become a prevailing issue and everywhere you go you leave a trail of destruction reminiscent of a re-run of a 'Tassie Devil cartoon', perhaps adding more to your plate is not the answer. Self sabotage comes in many forms, for the perfectionist this over load tactic, is a classic. SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE- keep it simple stupids

3) Beware the Blame Game: We have all used or heard of the 'work', 'children', 'partner', 'LIFE' excuses for not accomplishing or completing important tasks that move you toward your goals. In doing so what you are really saying is that you were too weak minded or weak willed to make yourself a priority or own up to your inadequacies to accomplish something YOU set for YOURSELF. When you play the blame game you are putting yourself in the role of VICTIM against the WORLD, in an attempt to shift responsibility from yourself to an outside, unseen element. Your not fooling anyone however, least of all yourself. In taking responsibility for the choices you make you will be more likely to come to the end result far quicker and with much less struggle and pain. SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE- Own your actions!

4)Be open to new opportunities: Setting clear goals and directions in which to focus your energies is one of the keys to success. Being single minded in achieving these goals and avoiding or perhaps simply jumping the many hurdles that inevitably creep up in your path, is a skill to reaching your goals on a consistent basis. However, life never goes perfectly to plan. One of the joyous aspects to life is that sometimes new adventures await us which we had never factored into the equation. Part of what makes life exciting is being able to roll with the punches and enjoy the possibilities whilst still maintaining course. Sometimes you may come back on course at a later date and sometimes there is little impact at all. Sometimes throwing the deck of cards in the air and seeing how they land is part of the fun of living an extraordinary rather than just an ordinary life.SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE- Be bold & daring you only get one shot!

With 5 weeks of preparation remaining, the training, dieting and overall lead up to this USA trip has been very enjoyable. Apart from a little niggle sciatic nerve issue. Caused some irritation at the beginning of the week, but rectified itself after an excruciating foam roller session- yes my language was most colourful for the 45minutes.

The altitude training has been a great addition to my training program, allowing for some enjoyable outdoors sprint training sessions and a new love/hate relationship with running, albeit my preferred sprint work. What I am finding most interesting is that my cardio performance outputs are on the improve despite lower calorie intake.

All in all I am feeling well on track for the pending shows and shoots. I cannot wait to get stateside. October is going to be an action packed month and the second year I will be overseas to celebrate my birthday, something which I feel so lucky to be able to say. Last year was Mexico City, this year Miami. I must also make very special mention to www.vitaminking.com.au

Nutrition is the KEY!

Are you playing RUSSIAN ROULETTE with your health?

Ever wondered how all those super fit and healthy people you know or have seen at the gym have such great skin, look years younger than their actual age and never have cellulite?
Exercise, although is an important and major part of the explanation, it is only part of the reason your fitness idols look so amazing and are glowing with health. 90% of the success you will experience in any health program will be based not in the hours you smash out weights or cardio; 90% of you success in weight management and glowing health comes down to what you put in your mouth. That’s right, your diet and supplementation program. You can never out train a poor diet no matter how hard you try. It is the choices you make with the food you eat and the supplements you take that will result in a youthful glow, less wrinkles, your ability to train harder for longer and perform better, loose excess body fat, sleep better, managing stress and managing depression and anxiety. It all starts with your nutrition.
Over the past decade as a physical trainer and world class figure competitor, I have I have paid close attention to my own nutrition and that of the clients I have helped. I have spent thousands of dollars and hours educating myself on nutrition and training principles for athletes. During this time I have discovered some fundamental rules apply when creating effective programs to support long term lifestyle management goals. It does not matter what you do in your day, there are basic principles we ALL MUST follow to function at our best everyday and fight off the ravages of diseases that are commonly classed as ‘lifestyle’ related. These are the health issues we have a choice in combating. Many people, through poor lifestyle choices and ill management are playing Russian Roulette with their health everyday of their lives and one day the odds are not going to be stacked in your favor. For a moment, I want you to think about 2 of your closest friends or family members, see their face before you right now….as you think of them I want you to choose from the following list which health issue they will combat in their lifetime and also choose one for yourself. One in three of us will develop one of the following issues:
  • ·      Obesity
  • ·      Heart disease
  • ·      Diabetes
  • ·      Stroke
  • ·      Cancer
  • ·      High blood pressure
  • ·      High cholesterol

Frightening isn’t it? Now, from this moment forward you have a choice as to how your health future plays out.
One of the big areas the body combats everyday is the damage caused by our diet and environment. Free radical damage at a cellular level is a very real issue for the health of the system overall. Antioxidants, found in many foods, are natures way of combating this damage on the cells. Glutathione is an antioxidant produced within the body and found in many foods which is considered the super antioxidant. But low absorbtion of glutathione and overall low levels within the body have been found to lead to many of the lifestyle diseases we are trying to combat.
“During a workout, the increased oxygen produces free radicals. Our body then uses our antioxident supply to neutralize these free radicals. This may deplete our glutathione supply. One study showed that 90 minutes of exercise led to a 60% depletion of glutathione.
If the body isn’t supplied with more glutathione, then we will experience muscle fatigue, poor athletic performance, longer recovery times and be more susceptible to future injury. However, by increasing our bodies glutathione levels, we can cut our recovery times in half and supply our muscle tissue with greater energy supply.
The benefits of increasing glutathione levels for all everyone, as well as athletes athletes, professional or not, are:
  • ·      A rapid and stable increase in energy
  • ·      Increases stamina and endurance
  • ·      Lessens muscle fatigue and exhaustion
  • ·      Improves cardiovascular function

  • ·      Reduces lactic acid

  • ·      Quickens recovery time

  • ·      Strengthens the immune system
  • ·      Protects your body from injury
  • ·      Reduces muscle stress
  • ·      Decreases inflammation

  • ·      Speeds up the healing process.

What Does Glutathione Do?
The strong antioxidant effect of glutathione helps keep cells running smoothly. Glutathione also helps the liver remove chemicals that are foreign to the body, such as drugs and pollutants.(Gustavo Bounous, MD)
"If you look in a hospital situation at people who have cancer, AIDS, or other very serious disease, almost invariably they are depleted in glutathione," says Appleton. "The reasons for this are not completely understood, but we do know that glutathione is extremely important for maintaining intracellular health."(Jeremy Appleton, ND)
Nevertheless, people have tried glutathione for the treatment of a whole host of conditions, including cancer, high blood pressure, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, cataracts, and male infertility.
The best studies have been conducted in cancer. One study involved women with ovarian cancer who were being treated with chemotherapy. Some of the women were also treated with intravenous glutathione. Those given the glutathione not only had fewer side effects from the chemotherapy but also had better overall survival rates.
·      Among the uses that have been reported for glutathione are:
·      treatment of poisoning, particularly heavy metal poisons
·      treatment of idiopathic pulmonary firbosis
·   increasing the effectiveness and reducing the toxicity of cis-platinum, a chemo drug used to treat breast cancer
·      treating Parkinson's disease
·      lowering blood pressure in patients with diabetes
·      increasing male sperm counts in humans and animals
·      treatment of liver cancer
·      treatment of sickle cell anemia
