We are in December already and as with every other year that has been prior, everyone goes mental trying to close the year out with an 'IN TRAY' that is empty.
Like every year that has passed prior...the INTRAY is NEVER empty...yet we all still go mental trying to kid our selves that if we scramble, shout, abuse and stress enough this year will be different.
HMMMM....The definition of insanity just came to mind.....
This mad scramble for Christmas 'cheer'...I know right, Im not feeling it right now peeps...does scream a little of being unprepared for the eventuality that is Dec 25th and all that goes with it. So perhaps with a little planning, things may not seem quite so...well...Manic.
Forecasting a little further along the weeks and we come to the January guilt fest...you know its going to happen. The usual, January 1st 'things will be different this year, I will loose this belly/butt/third nipple (you get my gist...). You feel feral after gorging yourself on festive food and have gained the estimated 2-3kg (4-6lb) over the past 5 days and drunk more sherry than a grannies convention...and begin to look toward 2012 with revised willpower and motivation. You will go to the gym and get a membership in the morning, you will not have that 3rd piece of Christmas cake after dinner.
Oh please! Who are you kidding? Of course you will have the cake and that gym membership will never get used! Lets stop the insanity and get real for a second shall we? Lets get honest while we are at it!
What I am suggesting is that you get real with yourself right NOW. What you have been saying about your health and body all year has not happened!
For those of you reading that have made changes and realised, or at least put into action goals that you set early in 2011, I loudly congratulate and honour the commitment you have made to your health. You are, in my eyes true masters of your own destiny and testimony to what can be achieved when you stop bullsh**ing yourselves and others and take ownership, become accountable to yourself, get self integrity and do what you promised yourself you would do. I love this, your amazing and should be proud.
I am writing this post for the 2 in 3 of you who are still, quite honestly deluded about the commitment you have to your own health. If even 20% of the stressing that was made about Dec 25th, was put toward being a healthier, fitter member of society...well what a bunch of sexy, hot studs and stud'ettes we would be walking amongst...no?
So, I pose this to you....Right now and for the rest of this week, take a look at what false statements you have made in the past and are likely to make again regarding your health and fitness. Admitting to yourself there is an issue as they say is half the battle. Once you have done this I challenge you to take measures to set up your health and fitness plan for the next 12 months, starting NOW. Go and get all your health tests done, your body analysis (DEXA scan) done, find a personal trainer, Cross-Fit class, adventure challenge(there are heaps to choose from all around the globe, so there is no excuse), if you have planned to compete but never had the kahunas to do it, set a date and start training and dieting for it NOW.
Make this year the year that you CHOSE not to be porcine and gorge Christmas food like it is your last meal. But instead stay true to your health and fitness goals, honour your word. Go to the gym, get active in the outdoors- summer or winter; its the best place to be.
Be proactive this year not reactive. Take emotions like guilt out of the equation so that the goals actually have a deeper seated meaning than just 'i feel fat'.
Let me describe a little scene for you, that truly blew me away...I was amazed and disturbed by the logic at play (if there was much at all), it was insanity in action-
picture if you will a bowl of ice-cream (vanilla too mind you... but whatever blows your hair back..lol), being coveted as though it were the last most delicious ice-cream on earth, quite obviously being enjoyed immensly. Which is fine, all power to you. However, the following tirade of self punishment and guilt over the consumption of this 'treat' was quite unbareable. To which the end result was..'right, well I will do an hour cardio to burn this off!'
..ok, a guilt induced action statement, fair enough...again do what you must I guess...
Not 10 minutes later I witness this same person with bowl of ice-cream number 2 repeating the entire process. Followed by the same conversation.
Now, in all fairness this is something that every single one of us have done at some point in our lives, replace the ice-cream with any number of things-food, work, training, relationships. The key here remains, repeat the same action and you will get the same result. If you know that guilt is going to follow an action and self loathing is part of that, dont do it. We know Christmas is a stressful time, so plan and strategise some of those stress' away Dont make plans to do things come January 1st, that in reality will never happen, make the plans and action them now, so that they are ALREADY HAPPENING. It is so much easier to continue something already started, than it is to begin in the first place.
Create positive habits and manage the hurdles that will come along, but do not sit whining about how awful you feel and how terrible it all is. Because honestly, you only have yourself to blame, therefore you only really have yourself to pull you out of it. Which is one of the most powerful and empowering concepts I leave you with. You have the power to change the outcome. So make it happen for yourself and above all stop PROCRASTINATING. DO IT NOW!
